Mark Payton, Editorial Director at Haymarket Media Group

18 Oct

Mark Payton is a journalist who started work at a London newspaper, before working on many specialist magazines. He is now editorial director at Haymarket Consumer Media, responsible for their print and digital content. Mark talks in this video about how Journalism has changed.

I found this process initially very difficult, since I have little experience in video editing software, but once I managed to edit the section I wanted to use, uploading the video to YouTube and then to this blog post was surprisingly straightforward.

LEP stories on the map

9 Oct

Below is a map featuring four news stories from the Lancashire Evening Post on Wednesday October 6 2010. I have found the location at which each story was based, and marked them on the map. In the information bubble, you will find a link to the story on the Lancashire Evening Post’s website, along with a link which you may find useful to gain a little extra information relevant to the stories. The image to accompany the Lancashire Police information point story is one I took myself. The creative commons image for the cigarette theft story was sourced from flickr, to demonstrate how useful it is as a tool for journalists. The inclusion of these images shows how Google maps has many features to be explored.

Map Practise

4 Oct

This is the result of much practise in how to first of all create a Google map, and then how to use an image within said map. The process initially seems very complex but once I found out how to make a basic map, adding an image was just taking the skill a step further.
